When is the Leeds Festival 2012 line up announced?

The next in our short series of Q&A for Leeds 2012, we’ve picked on yet another common question: when are the Leeds Festival headliners announced?

As a tradition, the organisers of Reading and Leeds Festivals have always revealed the headliners, and select bands from the line up, at the same time as the main batch of tickets go on sale. At most there is 30 minutes to separate line up from the start of the ticket sale; more often they coincide.

The same answer therefore also applies to the question: when do Leeds tickets go on sale?

The line up and ticket sale usually takes place on a Monday evening in the Spring. The list below shows the launch date in recent years:

• 2003: Monday, 7th April
• 2004: Monday, 29th March
• 2005: Monday, 21st March
• 2006: Monday, 3rd April
• 2007: Monday, 19th March
• 2008: Monday, 31st March
• 2009: Monday, 30th March
• 2010: Monday, 29th March
• 2011: Monday, 21st March
• 2012: Monday, 12th March

Time of day? Typically some time around 645pm – 715pm.

So when is the Leeds Festival 2012 launch?

In an interview this week, Festival Republic’s Melvin Benn revealed that the tickets would go on sale in “mid March”. If the organisers follow tradition then the announcement will be on a Monday, per usual, then we interpret mid-March to be either Monday, 12th March or Monday, 19th March.
