The Strokes to headline Leeds 2011 (rumour)

The Sun has today reported that The Strokes are “are in the frame to headline Reading and Leeds festivals next year.”

The band have finished recording their latest album and a source told The Sun today:

“It’s no surprise that Reading and Leeds bosses want The Strokes to be the big headliner in 2011, given their reputation as a live act.”

Although it’s quite early for rumours in the mainstream press, tickets go on sale on 3rd December so perhaps there are some genuine leaks taking place.

The official line up announcement is expected to take place in the Spring 2011.

Strokes, Blur and Daft Punk, that way everyone will be happy apart from these so called metal fans, if you were a metal fan you would focus on download, it doesnt take the biggest A7X fan to realise that Leeds is not a heavy metal festival, why not go on t4 on the beach’s website and complain about not enough Napalm Death?

  2. emily says:

    the specials all the way!!1

  3. JT says:

  4. jimmy says:

hope to see smaller acts like jamie t the xx HURTS etc

  5. Laura says:

the strokes and arcade fire, and i’d be in heaven. please please please!!

  6. James says:

The Strokes aren’t big enough? The Strokes were probably the biggest and best band of the 00′s as well as having their debut album being voted best of the decade by numerous magazines and websites.

  7. Squibs72 says:

I really hope they come up with some belters this year after the average headliners in 2010.
When you look at 2009 an 2008 – 2010 was very VERY average

Strokes would be good – but not to headline main stage

  8. Adam says:

What are people on? The Strokes not big enough? thats absurdity, biggest band theyve had headlining for ages. They changed music, without the strokes, past headliners like Arctic Monkeys and The Killers wouldnt exist.
    Cant wait to see them

  9. Liam says:

Why would bmth, adtr, your demise & parkway be at leeds?? are you stupid?

  10. robby57 says:

decc if you want to see bands like that go to a different festival. the strokes aren’t amazing but they are big enough to play leeds and reading, they have their own massive cult following and to be fair i haven’t heard many songs by them that i don’t like.

and who the hell thought arcade fire would be a good headliner? worst decision ever made.

  11. Dave says:

I’d refuse to go leeds with BMTH there, you go to download for that sorry arse tripe. Just saying, I’d love the strokes to headline and considering rumours Muse, Strokes and MCR are going to be the headlining acts. But less than jake, jimmy eat world and possibly rage against the machine need to do leeds in 2011 and maybe with a stroke of faith with the big man above Brand New.

Oh and I am hearing things Daft punk to.

  12. Jack says:

Everyone who’s moaning that Strokes aren’t heavy enough , just go to Download.
    The Strokes are awesome.

  13. Harry says:

Decc, I like some of the heavier bands as much as anyone, but if you want to see bands like that go to DOWNLOAD

  14. BENNY P says:

is everyone on crack? the strokes are huge. they are also amazing, better than all those shit metal bands that noones heard of!

  15. aaron says:

i want bullet and bmth to do leeds that be imense, plus bring back blink 182, paramore :P

  16. Decc says:

Storkes aren’t bigger than Blink Sarah, don’t be stupid.

    Strokes no. Someone bigger please.

And lower down we need to see adtr, bring me, suicude silence, parkway, your demise please. please. PLEASE!!!

  17. Gary says:

I think it will take alot to beat 2010′s headliners of arcade fire and blink! Strokes wouldn’t be bad but I think they should be in the NME tent!

  18. Mitch says:

Aaron, a day to remember played this year, so its unlikely they’re gonna play again next year.

  19. katie says:

to be fair, no one actually said they WEREN’T big enough. i am a Strokes fan, but i do think they should probably headline the NME Stage.

  20. Neetu Roy says:

Holy mother of fuck. :O Please let this be true. I would give my left ball to see The Strokes. THEY ARE FUCKING BIG ENOUGH!! THEY ARE GODS.

  21. aaron says:

leeds needs some metal bands like bullet and a7x and day to remember, but a7x wont do it because there at download :/ but some metal bands would be awesome

  22. Sarahh :) says:

Not a big enough act?! They would be amazing!! If you don’t think the strokes are a big enough headliner you’re clearly musically retarded or something. Or a fan of bands like to foofighters (who are pretty abysmal, let’s be honest)

  23. davo says:

strokes are better than any of the headliners last year by far

  24. daniel jenkins says:

foo fighters i want to see there, they’re doing t in the park so why not leeds

  25. ben martin says:

they definatly are big enough and there amazing live easily big enough for leeds and reading bloody arcade fire played last year and there shite

  26. dave says:

yeah maybe headline nme stage but not main

  27. Charlie says:

agree with Jake, hope this is just a rumour and the headline act is amazing

  28. stewart brown says:

    THAT WOULD BE AMAZING.

  29. Jake Ricketts says:

not a good enough headliner. need a banger. strokes arn’t big enough.
