Twitter success for Leeds Festival
Users of Twitter made full use of the social network during Leeds Festival with 100s of ‘tweets’ every hour and many pictures shared of the campsite, arena and bands. You also tweeted about a certain secret show…
While many may knock the purpose of a site like Twitter – “who wants to hear what someone is doing every minute of the day?” being one common complaint – there is no doubting that for large events like Leeds Festival it is a useful networking and information sharing tool.

For example, while rumours of a secret appearance at Leeds Festival by Them Crooked Vultures travelled quickly around the site via word-of-mouth, many people later contributed the fact they managed to catch the band down to being alerted via ‘tweets’ on the Twitter network.
And several of those people found out about the secret gig via our free Leeds Festival Twitter Timeline, a nifty tool we created to make following the festival chatter a little less daunting.
And based on your positive feedback it seems you like it – so we’ll keep it running.
Now that we’re in a quiet time between Leeds 2009 and Leeds 2010, we’re extending our range of tools and gadgets. For no other reason that to make things a little easier for people like you.
Or just plain silly of course – last week we created a tool that counts down the minutes to Leeds Festival 2010 ! See this post for more details on that one.
Today we’re releasing an extension to the Leeds Festival Twitter Timeline, this time as a Gadget for embedding on your iGoogle homepage or on your own website or blog. You can vary the amount of comments shown and the time delay between updates, and in full screen mode we’ve added options to reply to comments.
To use it, click on the image above or you can add the gadget below.
We’ve got a few more ideas to follow for 2010, including options for iPhone users so please keep checking back.
And if you would like to follow us click through to @leedsmusicscene, where you can hear all the latest music news from the city of Leeds.
